What To Do in Portland: A Special Video Welcome

As mentioned in the below post, the SEPG North America team visited Portland this past August to tour the conference sites, meet with vendors, select the menus, and do many other tasks that are involved in planning an SEPG conference.

We also had the chance to stop by Travel Portland’s visitor information center in Pioneer Courthouse Square and talk to Teri Joly, the visitor services coordinator. Teri’s passion for and knowledge of Portland gave us so many ideas of sights we wanted to see during our visit – and plenty more ideas for our return in March 2011! We created two short videos to give you more insider info the SEPG North America 2011 host city.

A Special SEPG North America 2011 Welcome from Travel Portland

As the SEPG North America team prepares for the 2011 conference, we wanted to share with you some of the many reasons why Portland is a great host city. And who better to talk about that than the folks at Travel Portland? During our pre-conference site visit this past summer, they were warm, welcoming, and wonderful ambassadors of their city.

And their hospitality extends online, too! The folks behind their @TravelPortland Twitter account are great at giving visitors a cyber welcome and answering questions as they are able.

In advance of SEPG North America 2011, they were kind enough to offer some insider tips and suggestions for SEPG North America attendees.

Visitor Information from Travel Portland

In Portland, getting around is a breeze. And it’s easy to find limitless recreation, fabulous dining and flourishing culture. And, oh yes — the nation’s largest variety of local microbrews. See for yourself, and plan to come early or stay late to enjoy all that Portland has to offer.

TRANSPORTATION

GREAT FOOD & DRINK

Portland has a favorite flavor: fresh.  A passion for seasonal ingredients — from salmon to Dungeness crab, pears to Marionberries — pervades kitchens throughout the city, from James Beard Award-winning fine-dining establishments to casual spots like downtown’s beloved food carts.

To accompany your meal, may we suggest an Oregon Pinot noir? Or, perhaps, one of the riot of handcrafted beers that have earned Portland the nickname “Beervana”? The fact that we have no food and beverage sales tax just adds to your dining pleasure.

TAX-FREE SHOPPING

With no sales tax, Portland is a haven for shoppers regardless of budget, transportation or personal style. Within steps of downtown hotels, you’ll find major national retailers, plus independent boutiques with designs you won’t see anywhere else. More shopping abounds in the trendy Pearl District, sophisticated Nob Hill and other unique neighborhoods around town.
